We are looking for volunteers on Sunday, 16th February.
Last year, the Parish Council was advised to fell several large trees in the wooded area of the Old Cricket Field, this was part of the tree management policy. This has resulted in several open areas with very few trees and no young trees at all.
To rectify this, the Parish Council made an application to the Greenham Common Trust who sponsored the provision of trees and hedging plants for community projects. The trees and hedge plants are now in Lambourn and are starting to bud, so the aim is to get them planted as soon as possible.
The trees will be planted at the Old Cricket Field and the hedging plants will be used to infill the gaps in the hedge line behind one of the goals at The Recreation Ground in Mill Lane.
Ideally, volunteers will be split into two groups, one to help choose good locations for the trees, prepare the ground, and carry out all the planting and staking of the trees. The other group will be at the Rec, clearing out the dead wood and scrub from the existing hedge and planting the new hedging.
It is important that we know how many people are likely to be involved so that we can allocate resources between the two parks and organise tools etc for the project. If you would like to be involved in this project please contact Chris Harris at cllr.harris@lambourn-pc.gov.uk
If there are any 16-18 year olds who play football at the Rec, their attendance would be really appreciated. Both to come along and advise as well as help with the hedge clearing and planting.
