Lambourn Parish Council are deeply saddened by the recent tragic loss of a racehorse and the injury of a rider on our local roads. We extend our heartfelt condolences to all those affected by this incident.

The safety of both riders and horses on our roads is a top priority for our community. In response to this incident, we are committed to taking immediate action.

We are working closely with local authorities, equine organisations, and road safety experts to assess the situation.  The Parish Council have arranged the following:

  • West Berkshire Highways have been notified to enable them to request details from the Police to undertake an investigation of the road conditions.
  • Local representatives, including parish councillors, NARS, trainers and other representatives are meeting with a British Horse Society (BHS) road safety representative in the next few weeks.
  • Parish councillors are liaising with Jockey Club Estates to discuss further signage in the area.
  • An initial consultation to formally request the implementation of a 20 mph speed limit on Maddle Road and High Street, Upper Lambourn is currently underway.

We understand that this incident has caused concern and distress among our residents. We want to assure you that we are taking this matter very seriously and will do everything in our power to help in preventing similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
