With the temperatures dropping you might see the gritters out and about in the area. West Berkshire Council are only responsible for gritting the main roads click here for a detailed map. The highlighted routes are specific routes administered by the Parish Council, the red routes are West Berkshire Council’s responsibility.
Lambourn Parish Council is responsible for annually reviewing specific routes in the area which are important for keeping the local community moving. We then agree the routes with West Berkshire to ensure they are included in their gritting network.
Lambourn Parish Council budgets for, administers and funds the gritting of the additional roads using money from the precept (the local tax that Lambourn Parish Council requests annually which is included in your Council Tax payment).
The routes agreed for this winter are:

• Big Lane
• Mill Lane
• Baydon Road
• Bockhampton Road
• Station Road
• Crowle Road
• Sheepdrove
Several key roads used by the racing industry are gritted using funding from a voluntary Racing Salting Levy. Lambourn Parish Council administers this levy and the funds on behalf of the Lambourn Trainers Association. These roads would not be gritted without the voluntary contributions received from the Trainers in the valley.

The Parish Council is also responsible for filling and replacing the grit bins in the area. These have all been topped up ready for winter use
