22nd April 2024
Following our request for an update, West Berkshire Council have confirmed to us that repairs are planned to roads in Lambourn as part of the Council’s Highway Improvement Programme. This will improve five and a half kilometres of roads in the area. The programme is compiled using empirical evidence from comprehensive testing over the last 20 years and has led to improvements in the condition of roads over the last 15 years.
- Texture treatment has being carried out at Maddle Road in Upper Lambourn and will be carried out on Newbury Road in Lambourn during April. This will improve tyre grip and skid resistance.
- Surface dressing will be carried out on Baydon Road during the summer. Before this takes place, any weak areas of the road will be ‘patched’ or repaired to provide a solid foundation for the surface treatment.
During the poor weather earlier in the year, the Council cleaned the grips in the Lambourn area, including the Wantage road. The grips allow water to pass off the roads into the adjacent ditches. The Council also carried out minor ditch clearance along the Wantage Road to improve the drainage. These ditches are the responsibility of the adjacent landowners, and further ditch clearance which would improve their capacity and flow.
Further work will take place later this year on roadside gullies as part of the Council’s cyclic cleansing programme. Each gully is cleansed on a cycle between six monthly and every four years based on risk factors and historic experience. The frequency can be adjusted at times to improve performance. Gullies in the Lambourn area are on a mixture of cleansing frequencies. The current programme is that all these gullies will be cleansed between October and December 2024.
